And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him. (Mat 4:18-20)

Follow Me

Jesus called Peter and Andrew to follow Him. He promised that if they followed Him, He would make them fishers of men. As they followed Christ, they would become fishers of men. I believe this with all my heart: if you're follow Christ, you will become a soul winner. If you're not sharing the gospel with a lost world, you're not following Christ. Christ came into the world to seek and save that which was lost (Luk. 19:10). If you're like Him, you'll seek the lost, too.

Fishers of Men

Christ called fishermen. He called them in familiar, comparitive terms. What they would do was, in some ways, like what they had been doing. As fishermen, they couldn't just sit by the sea and hope some fish would jump onto the shore so they could pick them up. If they wanted to catch fish, they had to go where the fish were. They had to seek them out. They needed equipment, they had to take the time, and make the effort if they expected to be successful fishermen.

These men did follow Christ and they did become fishers of men. They applied the principles of their old life in their new ministry. They went where lost folks were. They used the tools Christ gave them. They took the time and made the effort to share the good news with a needy world. They succeded in their new work because Christ taught them to be fishers of men.
