We close out the week by looking at the most important reason for sharing the gospel – the glory of God.
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s. (1Co 6:19-20)
Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. (1Co 10:31)
Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. (Joh 15:16)
Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. (Joh 15:8)
Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. (1Pe 2:12)
Do All to the Glory of God
One of the most important things every Christian is supposed to do is to glorify God. Honoring God fulfills a central purpose for our lives and a reasons for which Christ purchased us with His blood. We’re supposed to glorify Him in all we do – even eating and drinking.
Herein Is My Father Glorified
Jesus told the apostles that He chose them and ordained them that they would go and bring forth fruit. He said they would glorify the Father when they bore fruit. He also said they would prove to be His disciples by bearing fruit. So, bearing fruit isn’t just the job of apostles, but of disciples like you and me.
This fruit bearing, by the way, involves going, going to bring the gospel to the world. We are to be fruitful like God told His original creatures to be fruitful and multiply. They were to reproduce after their kind. Christians, too, are to reproduce, to be fruitful and multiply, by bringing other Christians into the world.
What About You?
Are you glorifying God by bearing fruit?
