God Judges Sinners

Sharing the Good News

Introduction

Yesterday, we talked about the fact that all of us are sinners. As we continue down the Romans Road, we're going to consider the penalty for sin.

Scripture Reading

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Rom 6:23)

Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: (Rom 5:12)

But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. Do not err, my beloved brethren. (Jam 1:14-16)

And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. (Rev 20:12-15)

Sin's Penalty

In our day, if enough people do something, it's considered normal, which is considered good. So, when we talk about everyone being a sinner, many people will agree without understanding the seriousness of the statement.

Sin is deadly, and sinners are doomed. That's the clear message of today's Bible readings. "The wages of sin is death," Paul said. "Sin ... bringeth forth death," was the way James expressed it. Sin has a penalty and the Judge of All the Earth imposes that penalty.

The Lake of Fire

The ultimate destination of every lost sinner is the Lake of Fire. This is a place of separation from God and endless torment (Mar. 9:43-48). This place of suffering was prepared for "the devil and his angels," (Mat. 25:41) who had a full, first-hand knowledge of God and turned from Him. Those who follow them in their rejection of God end up there, too. Thank God, He has made a way for anyone to avoid that destination.
