We have talked about getting ready to share the gospel. Being prepared, being Spirit-filled, and meeting people where they are, all of which are important. But your efforts will be opposed. That’s what we’re going to look at for the next couple of days.
Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower. When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side. (Mat 13:18-19)
2Co 4:3-4 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: (4) In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you: And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith. But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil. (2Th 3:1-3)
Jesus warned His disciples that they would face opposition when they tried to share God’s Word. In the parable of the sower, He said that some of the seed of God’s Word would be snatched up by Satan. Sharing the gospel is spiritual warfare. That’s one of the reasons it can be so difficult. Most Christians would rather do almost anything other kind of Christian service.
Paul conveyed this same idea to the Christians at Corinth. He said that the gospel is hid to them that are lost. How does it happen? The god of this world (Satan) blinds their minds. Again, we see that sharing the gospel is much more than one human being trying to persuade another human being. We need supernatural power because we have supernatural opposition.
Prayer for Help
Becuase of the supernatural opposition to the good news, Paul asked the Thessalonians to pray for him. He wanted them to pray that God’s Word would have free course – to move without being hindered. United prayer lays hold of God’s power to push back the forces of darkness and let the Word do its work. God would also work in response to prayer to overcome the human opposition of unbelievers.
What About Your?
- Have you noticed resistance to the gospel?
- Have you been praying for God to overcome that resistance in your life and the lives of other believers so you can share the gospel effectively?
