Next, we turn our attention to the worth of wisdom and knowledge. As you might expect from the person who wrote most of the Book of Proverbs, wisdom is highly valued. Today we’ll look at the positive side of wisdom.
(Ecc 10:10) If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct.
(Ecc 7:11) Wisdom is good with an inheritance: and by it there is profit to them that see the sun. (12) For wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it.
(Ecc 8:1) Who is as the wise man? and who knoweth the interpretation of a thing? a man’s wisdom maketh his face to shine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed.
The Changes Wisdom Brings
Wisdom is practical – it helps the wise know what they should do to anticipate life’s needs. The ability to see ahead can save us lots of work. Wisdom and money together are good, but wisdom is the better of the two. Like a Bible college professor of mine used to say, “Sell your shirt and buy a book.” The wisdom you gain from it will empower you. Wisdom gives confidence and boldness.
