Thanks for visiting Progressive Devotions. Here you’ll find devotional material that will guide you through the study of a topic, like Bible Study Basics or How to Change, day by day. You will also find links to other helpful sites for Christians and, once in a while, some personal comments on current events.
Be sure to stop in every day for a dose of encouragement, help, and challenge.
To help make this site more useful for your Bible study, we’ve designed a printer style sheet for the Progressive Devotions site. In laymen’s terms that means articles will print a whole lot nicer than they used to. Go ahead, give it a try.
*waits a moment for the printing to finish*
Clean and organized. Now you can print them out for binding and note-taking, Bible studies at church, passing around to friends or just easy reference later. We did include the comments on the print layout because often the discussion in the comments helps color in various aspects of the entry.
We’re hoping this helps make these Bible studies a lot more useful for you. Leave some feedback and let us know what you think.
Today is Thanksgiving Day here in the U.S. This is a day to count our blessings and express our gratitude for them. Here are some things I’m thankful for:
- God’s love, revealed to us when He gave His Son to be our Saviour.
- God’s work in my life to convince me that I needed what He did.
- My wonderful friend, my wife, Debbie.
- My four children and their families who walk with God.
- Long-time friends like Carl and Allen.
- The people of Calvary Baptist Church and our Pastor, Joe Roof.
- Health and material provisions from God.
What are you thankful for today?
We’ll resume our study tomorrow by proposing some answers to the questions we posed at the beginning of the week. Have a thankful day.
I hope you had a wonderful, Christ-centered Christmas. Thank God for the gift of His Son! I’m also thankful that my wife and I were able to spend the holiday weekend with our family. Jesse & Jessica, John & Sarah, and Sarah Dena were all home for Christmas. (And we got to webcam with Nathan & Jessica & Gabe (Hi Bubster!). Today we’ll be spending the day together before they all head home. Please come back tomorrow as we resume our study of James.
I’m leaving for NYC Sunday afternoon and will be there teaching for couple of days. I’ll be offline and unable to post new devotions. I should have a new devotion up Wednesday morning.
In response to a recent email, I wrote a 7 page paper on How to Be Free from Pornography. I’m hoping it will be a help to many people. Take a look and let me know if you have suggestions for how to impove it. Thanks.
Here in the U.S., we celebrate our nation’s founding on the 4th of July. If you’re taking part in that celebration, I hope you have a wonderful day.
Take a moment today, though, and thank God for the freedom you enjoy. Remember those who shed their blood and laid down their lives for our country.
Thank God for the spiritual freedom you enjoy, too. Like our national liberty, spiritual liberty was costly:
1Pe 1:18-19 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; (19) But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
Stop by tomorrow for another installment in our series on prayer.
